$420M Powerball Ticket Sold
In Nashville, Tennessee, a lucky lottery player bought a ticket in Lafayette and has ended up winning a staggering jackpot of $420.9 million. The city of Lafayette is home to just 5,000 residents and is situated 60 miles northeast of Nashville.
According to a press release, the Powerball lottery ticket matched six winning numbers drawn that Saturday evening. The winning numbers for the Powerball ticket were 17-19-21-37-44 and the Powerball 16. The Power Play was 2.
Another lucky ticket also managed to win big after it matched the first five numbers and the Power play. That ticket was worth $2 million. It was sold in North Carolina in the Saturday night draw. In Pennsylvania and Minnesota two lucky players won $1 million each on their lottery tickets.
The grand prize winner hasn’t come forward yet. It ranks as the twelfth-largest US lottery prizes and the ninth-largest Powerball prize. The Tennessee lottery advised residents to sign the back of their winning tickets and keep them secure.
Lottery rules state that the winner has a total of 180 days from the date of the draw and about six months to claim the jackpot. From there, they can decide whether they want to claim the jackpot as a cash lump sum, or as an annuity in 30 annual payments. This is the second big Powerball winner to have come out of Tennessee. The $1.6 billion jackpot winner that was shared by three tickets on the 13th of January 2016 was the first major winner.
